Is it necessary to have a film camera to have the best prints in professional photography?
kristi_wilson81 asked:
I have picked up photography as a hobby (Who hasn’t?). I was given an old Nikon e995 Digital Camera as a gift. I know nothing about artistically capturing an image. Is this a good camera for beginners? Also any tips would be great. I don’t want to make any money, it just makes me happy. Also my walks are very peaceful. Thanks!

No.
Imagination and technique are far more valuable than hardware.
The most expensive photograph ever sold was taken with a pinhole camera.

“Professional” is expensive and that camera isn’t professional because it takes only interpolated photos (jpegs). You lose a lot of visual data without raw photos (tiffs).
But if you’re a beginner and aren’t in it to make money, it’s a perfectly fine camera and there’s no need to worry about making it professional.
With digital photography, you can either stick to keeping it digital or get a good printer.

No, it is not necessary to have a film camera to have great prints.
There are sites and classes that can help you develop your skills. Google photography to find some.
Your camera will be fine as a starter for developing the “art”. With digital, you can experiment with many different settings and setups to learn the craft. It does not cost more to take 100 pics instead of just 1. As long as you have memory card, and can move the pics to other media, you have unlimited trial and error. You might stay away from flash photography for a while if you can - the lighting outdoors is much easier to deal with. Start with the basics (from your Google hits), and have fun while learning the finer points.
